Gotta Love The Bad Movies.

Have you ever watched a really bad film, and yet you love it because it’s so bad. I mean, they’re universally criticized by the critics and the audience and yet you can’t stop watching it even with its mediocre plot and spectacularly horrendous dialogue. Sometimes you don’t want your friends to know. I like to call them guilty-pleasure movies. And although there are a billion movies out there, here’s five that I hate to love

1. A Walk To Remember (2002)

This movie is based on one of Nicholas Sparks’ novel, so we know it’s going to b a tearjerker. Bad editing (especially during Many Moore’s singing scene), cheesy acting, and the token black guy are reasons to hate it, but its enduring factor is the storyline of a undying love with a teenage girl who dies from leukemia. Irony!

Guilty Pleasure Quote: “I don’t need a reason to be angry with god.”

2. Batman and Robin (1997)

Hmm where to start: Gratuitous “BAT” nipples, crappy dialogue by everyone including Alicia Silverstone, universally panned by every critic and movie-goer, and the gayest sets that should be in a gay porn. But it’s worth it to hear Arnold Schwartznegger, our future governor,  say “Welcome to your doom, Batman!”

Guilty Pleasure Quote: “So many people to kill, so little time.”

3. The Covenant (2006)

The movie has all the trappings of a pilot based on a late 90s WB supernatural show: four male witches in high school. But the male eye candy is what keeps me going. Very twinky.

Guilty Pleasure Quote: “You’re my wiatch!”

4. The Mummy Returns (2001)

It’s a sequel that went over the top with adventures, special effects, and more bad acting from Brendan Fraser. Very predictable, but the mythology and the wild action scenes makes this movie a fun romp.

Guilty Pleasure Quote: “You can go to hell and take your friends with you.”

5. High School Musical (2006)

Absolute teen fare with cheesy dialogue and a mundane plot provided by the Disney Channel. But the musical numbers and reliving high school with Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron is a guilty pleasure in itself.

Guilty Pleasure Quote: “Hip hop is my passion. I love to pop, and lock, and jam, and break.”

I’ll be planning a bad movie night with some friends by watching Scorpion King 2, Speed Racer, and/or Virgin Territory. Let’s see if we can survive the experience.
